Another successful year running, Castle Combe Circuit was treated to a sea of performance car-based action back at the start of September in the form of Forge Action Day.
Teaming up with Forge Motorsport – one of the country’s finest performance parts manufacturers based in nearby Gloucester – the Wiltshire venue played host to over 1500 club cars spanning over 100 car clubs, with an equally exciting array of sporty metal hitting the track throughout the day.
In the fiercely-fought Show and Shine competition held in the circuit’s paddock area, judges really were spoilt for choice with the line-up of incredible cars that made the Top 25 spots. But eventually, the top three cars were announced. In third place was Jamie Bryant and his Audi A3, which hid the surprises of a brand-new S3 turbocharged engine and even a home-built 4WD system under its immaculate shell – perfectly epitomising what Forge Action Day is all about. Taking silver was Kieran Homer in his equally as immaculate Honda S2000 which also sported an Airlift Performance air suspension system and a Rotrex supercharger on its rev-happy motor. But the top spot just had to go to Ryan Powell and his spotless Sapphire Cosworth, complete with period Rousesport performance goodies under the bonnet and mixing it up with some modern Fifteen52 rally-inspired rims.
With such a huge amount of brilliant club displays present on the day, choosing a Club of the Show proved to be equally as tough a challenge. Nestled away near the Tower entrance, however, the SouthWest88’s stand stood out for all the right reasons. With a lot of effort having clearly gone into this local club’s setup, along with an impressive mix of performance cars to show off, the coveted award clearly was clearly put in the right hands.
That just left Car of the Show to dish out, which was awarded to Mark Hudd’s three-door Sierra Cosworth – boasting over 700bhp and a 4WD conversion encased in curves clean enough to eat your dinner off! Congratulations Mark for a thoroughly deserved win.
On track, breaking up the fully sold-out public track time were some crowd-favourite drifting displays, as well as a parade of the best 25 cars of the whole event during the afternoon, as selected by cleaning gurus Meguiar’s.
